Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Finance Manager (known as the Finance Coach) to lead our financial operations. In this vital role, you will oversee financial management, accounting, planning, and cost control processes, ensuring the financial health and sustainability of our organization. We are searching for the right person to develop crucial work in participatory finance at our co-op. As a co-operative society owned by our members, we take a transparent, inclusive approach to financial management. This is easier said than done - it requires accessible reporting, upskilling and appropriate organisation structures to support people to make informed, strategic decisions.
Pay
£40,950 - £45,000 pa pro rata.
Duties
- Payroll & Pensions
- Review payroll data and liaise with our finance lead and Coach (Registered Manager) to finalise submissions
Benefits
- Manage P11D processes with HMRC, including MARORS scheme submissions
- Oversee employee benefit renewals and enrolments (Cycle to Work, car maintenance scheme)
- Ensure correct benefit deductions and system updates
- Work with the Calderdale Circle and Purpose Circles to review and introduce new benefit offerings
Banking & Payments
- Manage and approve payment flows and banking communications
- Lead on Relationship Banking communications
- Manage and maintain banking accesses
- Oversee supplier payments and invoice management
- Co-ordinate payments and internal bank transfers
Funding
- Process shareholder payments and withdrawals
- Support share issuance and related accounting processes
- Collaborate with customers and finance lead to ensure timely and accurate invoicing
- Proactive management of debtors
- Recommend withdrawal maximums and interest payment levels to the Purpose Circle
Accounts & Returns
- Complete month-end reconciliations
- Lead on year-end accounts and corporation tax review with external accountants
- Oversee all HMRC returns
- Lead on or collaborate for submissions to other bodies that include financial information, both actuals and budgets (eg insurance, grant applications)
Policies, Reporting & Forecasting
- Monthly cost reviews and forecasting updates with Local Circles
- Review and improve on reporting structures, supporting Local Circles to make independent decisions based on their own profit and loss.
- Prepare and review annual forecasts and end-of-year cost reports
- Maintain Equal Care’s financial risk register, flagging items for review and owning particular lines.
- Maintain ownership of Equal Care’s financial policies and controls, ensuring that they remain up to date, that practice is reflected by them and Equal Care’s financial processes are fully compliant.
Training & Collaboration
- Support and develop the Finance Lead and Equal Care Coaches
- Develop and present regular training for nominated Numbers Leads in Equal Care’s Local Circles
- Advance the democratisation of financial decisions in an informed, sustainable and safe way
- Present financial and activity reports to members and circle members, providing questions and suggested actions / points for discussion and agreement.
- Work closely with the Equal Care platform team to develop features and functionality for reporting, billing, invoicing and payment
- Oversight of all HMRC submissions, including the Intermediary Return and any international payments
- Lead on salary review processes and shared decision making process for pay policies and strategy
- Oversee pension processing, complete declarations and annual renewals
- Respond to employee pension queries
- Review employee expenses
Requirements
A qualified or nearly qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA accountant who has experience of managing a team and a strong track record of working with people inexperienced in or new to finances. We require excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to upskill colleagues in an inclusive and respectful way.
- Proven experience in financial management within a nonprofit or care-focused organization is highly desirable.
- Strong background in financial accounting, reporting, and compliance standards.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams effectively.
- Expertise in financial planning, budgeting, and cost control strategies.
- Knowledge of financial arrangements relevant to the social care sector is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
- Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
