RJC Lowloaders Ltd is a specialist transport and lifting company operating throughout the UK and Europe.
We provide specialist transport solutions across the construction, rail, infrastructure, plant and machinery sectors, including lowloader movements, HIAB transport, abnormal loads and specialist projects.
Due to continued growth in the business and increased operational and administrative requirements, the company requires additional resource within the transport planning team.
The additional position will support TMS administration, customer booking systems, Datascope/HS2 bookings, driver briefings and day-to-day transport planning.
We are therefore looking for an organised, proactive and reliable Transport Planner to join our team at Ditchford Mill.
The Role
Working as part of the transport management team, you will help ensure the day-to-day operation is planned, administered and communicated effectively.
This is a varied role involving both transport administration and operational planning support.
A major part of the position will be ensuring jobs are accurately entered onto our own Transport Management System (TMS) and customers' systems, while also managing site bookings and ensuring drivers receive clear and accurate instructions for their daily work.
You will work closely with management, drivers and customers. Our operation can change quickly throughout the day, so you must be comfortable adapting to changing requirements and helping the team keep the fleet operating safely and efficiently.
Main Responsibilities
- Booking transport jobs accurately onto our TMS software
- Updating jobs as collection, delivery and customer requirements change
- Uploading and managing jobs through customers' TMS and booking systems
- Booking vehicles, drivers and deliveries onto Datascope, HS2 and other site booking systems
- Supporting the management team with the daily planning of drivers, vehicles and workloads
- Assisting with the allocation and organisation of work
- Supporting the planning of work around driver availability and drivers' hours
- Briefing drivers on their daily tasks, including collection and delivery information, site requirements and customer instructions
- Communicating changes to drivers throughout the working day
- Liaising with customers regarding bookings, collections, deliveries and site access
- Monitoring live jobs and identifying potential delays or operational issues
- Escalating problems to the appropriate member of the management team
- Ensuring drivers have the correct job information and documentation before attending sites
- Accurately recording waiting times, delays and other relevant job information
- Checking completed jobs contain the information required for administration and invoicing
- Maintaining clear communication between drivers, customers and the transport management team
- Providing general operational and administrative support to the transport department
What We're Looking For
Previous experience within transport, haulage, logistics or a busy traffic office would be preferred.
The successful candidate should:
- Have experience using a TMS or similar transport/logistics system, or demonstrate strong computer and systems knowledge
- Be confident working across several computer systems
- Have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Be capable of managing multiple jobs and priorities
- Communicate confidently and professionally with drivers, customers and colleagues
- Be able to react quickly when transport plans or customer requirements change
- Have a practical and proactive approach to problem solving
- Understand the importance of accurate job information and site bookings
- Be comfortable working within a busy transport environment
- Be capable of working independently while remaining part of the wider planning and management team
Knowledge of drivers' hours and Working Time Directive regulations would be advantageous.
Experience with Datascope, HS2, FORS, abnormal loads, lowloaders, HIAB operations, construction logistics or specialist haulage would also be beneficial, although training can be provided.
A Transport Manager CPC and/or HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
Salary & Hours
£41,600 per annum
Based on:
£16.00 per hour
50 hours per week
This is a full-time, permanent position, subject to successful completion of a probationary period.
