Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) is seeking a motivated Logistics Support Technician to join the Fleet, Engineering & Supplies team at Southern Area Command in Bangor.
In this role, you will provide vital logistical, transport, and technical support across the region. You will drive NIFRS specialist vehicles, deliver essential firefighting equipment and supplies to live operational incidents, and perform critical testing, maintenance, and decontamination of operational kit.
Key Responsibilities
- Driving & Transport: Drive various NIFRS fleet vehicles (including LGVs/HGV appliances, vans, and specialist vehicles) to transfer equipment, supplies, and personnel across UK and ROI locations.
- Incident Logistics & Support: Deliver firefighting gear, fuel bowsers, water/hose pods, and breathing apparatus cylinders to operational incidents and training exercises. Deploy and crew welfare modules during incidents.
- Equipment Testing & Maintenance: Conduct routine inspection, pressure testing, calibration, decontamination, and certification of operational gear (such as lay flat hoses, gas monitors, and protective gloves) using the Stock & Asset Management System (SAM).
- Warehouse & Logistics: Operate forklifts (Counterbalance/Reach) to load/unload supplies at logistics hubs, inspect incoming deliveries, and handle hazardous goods or contaminated PPE safely.
- Standby & Out-of-Hours Cover: Participate in the regional duty standby rota to maintain operational resilience and out-of-hours emergency support.
Essential Criteria
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a service delivery environment that included driving Large Goods Vehicles (LGV).
- Driving Licences: Must hold a full, valid UK HGV/LGV Category C driving licence and a B+E licence.
- Forklift Certification: Possess valid Counterbalance and Reach & Tier forklift licences (or a willingness to complete required training).
- IT Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and database/management information systems.
- Key Skills: Excellent oral and written communication, strong organization skills, customer service focus, and high attention to detail.
Desirable Criteria
- Possess a full UK Category D1 driving licence (minibus).
- NVQ Level 2 in a relevant subject or technical/maintenance qualifications/experience.
- Previous knowledge or experience handling Fire & Rescue Service equipment.
Pay: £16.68 per hour
