£13.45 per hour
Saturday & Sunday, 09:30–16:30 – two weekends per month
About the role
Belhaven Smokehouse is looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable Weekend Retail Assistant to join our team at our Smokehouse shop just outside Dunbar.
We are an established East Lothian food producer, known for our high-quality, award-winning smoked foods, which are enjoyed by customers, retailers and chefs across the UK.
This is a varied, customer-facing role and would suit someone who genuinely enjoys meeting people, has an interest in great food and takes pride in providing excellent customer service.
The regular commitment is two weekends per month, working Saturday and Sunday from 09:30–16:30, with opportunities for additional hours during busy seasonal periods, at farmers' markets and to provide holiday cover.
We are proud to be a Real Living Wage Employer and offer a current rate of £13.45 per hour.
What you'll be doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming and serving customers in our Smokehouse shop
- Providing friendly, knowledgeable customer service
- Taking payments and operating the till
- Answering telephone calls and dealing with customer enquiries
- Keeping shelves, fridges and counters well stocked and attractively presented
- Developing a good knowledge of our products so you can confidently advise customers
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the shop
- Following our food safety and hygiene procedures
- Assisting with deliveries and stock movement, which will involve some lifting
- Supporting the wider team during particularly busy periods
About you
We're looking for someone who is:
- Warm, friendly and confident dealing with customers
- Reliable, punctual and enthusiastic
- Organised and comfortable working independently when required
- Interested in good food and quality local produce
- Happy working in a varied role where priorities can change throughout the day
- A good communicator with a positive, can-do attitude
Previous retail or customer service experience would be an advantage, but attitude, reliability and a willingness to learn are just as important to us.
Full training on our products, systems and procedures will be provided.
