Job Overview
We are recruiting two experienced Lead Passive Fire Engineers to join our mobile engineering teams covering Yorkshire and surrounding areas approximately 40 miles further north.
Working alongside an Assistant Engineer, you will lead the delivery of passive fire protection and compartmentation works across secure establishments. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical knowledge, excellent workmanship, and the ability to operate professionally within highly regulated and security-controlled environments.
Due to the nature of the sites involved, applicants must already hold current, transferable CTC Level 2 clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver passive fire protection and compartmentation works across secure establishments.
- Complete fire stopping and penetration sealing installations in accordance with approved specifications and manufacturer guidance.
- Install and remediate passive fire products, including fire batt, mastic, collars, wraps, and other approved fire-rated systems.
- Identify damaged, missing, or non-compliant passive fire protection measures and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
- Interpret technical survey reports, drawings, and remedial schedules to plan and complete works effectively.
- Supervise, mentor, and support an Assistant Engineer on site.
- Inspect completed works to ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards, and industry requirements.
- Complete accurate photographic evidence, job records, and compliance documentation.
- Liaise professionally with site representatives, client contacts, and internal teams.
- Follow all secure-site procedures, including prison security requirements, access protocols, and tool-control processes.
- Maintain responsibility for materials, tools, equipment, and vehicle stock.
- Deliver toolbox talks and promote a positive health and safety culture.
- Work in accordance with Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and safe systems of work.
- Participate in call-out arrangements where required.
QualificationsEssential
- Current, transferable CTC Level 2 clearance.
- Proven hands-on experience in passive fire protection or fire stopping.
- Previous experience in a lead, supervisory, or mentoring position.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 in Passive Fire Protection.
- CSCS Skilled Worker Card.
- FIRAS, IFC, BM TRADA, ASFP, IFI, or equivalent passive fire training.
- SSSTS qualification.
- IPAF and/or PASMA certification.
- Asbestos Awareness certification.
- Confined Space training.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong technical knowledge of passive fire protection systems, fire stopping methods, and compartmentation principles.
- Experience installing and maintaining fire-rated penetration seals and associated passive fire products.
- Ability to interpret survey reports, technical information, and remedial requirements accurately.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise and support junior engineers.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering compliant, high-quality workmanship.
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements, particularly within controlled environments.
- Ability to work professionally within secure establishments and follow strict site procedures.
- Excellent reporting skills, including accurate photographic records and digital documentation.
- Strong communication skills with a professional client-facing approach.
- A reliable, organised, and safety-focused attitude.
