Mother’s Help – Near St Andrews, Scotland

We are looking for an experienced, caring and reliable Mother’s Help to provide practical support to a family with a newborn, based near St Andrews, Scotland.
This is a lovely opportunity for someone with previous childcare or nannying experience, who enjoys working closely with parents and providing an extra pair of hands to help with both childcare and the day-to-day running of the family home.
About the role
Working closely with the parents, you will provide caring and attentive support with the newborn's daily routine, while also helping with light household tasks and general family support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing warm, attentive and age-appropriate care for the newborn.
- Assisting with feeding, changing, settling and comforting the baby.
- Supporting the parents with the baby's daily routines.
- Helping to maintain a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the baby.
- Baby-related laundry, tidying and organisation.
- Light household duties, including general tidying and laundry.
- Preparing simple meals, refreshments or snacks for the family when required.
- Being proactive and anticipating ways in which you can support the family.
- Following the parents' preferences and routines around childcare.
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene, health and safety.
- Maintaining confidentiality, discretion and appropriate professional boundaries at all times.
- Following appropriate safeguarding practices and raising any concerns promptly with the parents.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:

- Experienced in childcare, ideally with experience of caring for newborns or young babies.
- Reliable, trustworthy and responsible.

- Proactive, practical and happy to get involved where needed.
- Organised and able to manage different priorities.
- Comfortable working independently while also taking direction from the parents.
- Respectful of the privacy and confidentiality of a private family home.
- Professional and able to maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Committed to the safety, wellbeing and safeguarding of children.
Experience & qualifications
- Previous experience as a Mother's Help, Nanny, Childcare Practitioner or in a similar family support role is desirable.
- A relevant childcare qualification is desirable but not essential where you have strong practical childcare experience.
- A current Paediatric First Aid qualification would be advantageous, or you should be willing to obtain this as a condition of appointment.
- Safeguarding or relevant childcare training would also be desirable.

Appointment will be subject to satisfactory completion of appropriate pre-employment checks, including references, identity verification and right-to-work checks, together with PVG membership where applicable to the role.
