Kitchen Porter / Kitchen Assistant
Sam’s Chop House, Manchester
£12.71 per hour + share of tips & service charge (Tronc)
Full-time hours
We’re looking for a Kitchen Porter / Kitchen Assistant to join the team at Sam’s Chop House — and this is a brilliant opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a proper Manchester institution and a seriously good kitchen team.
This isn’t just a job washing pots. You’ll be an important part of keeping the kitchen running smoothly, supporting the chefs and helping us maintain the high standards our guests expect.
What you’ll be doing
- Keeping the kitchen, equipment and work areas spotlessly clean and organised
- Washing up and keeping on top of pots, pans and kitchen equipment
- Assisting the chefs with basic food preparation
- Helping with deliveries, stock organisation and putting produce away
- Keeping fridges, storage areas and prep areas tidy and well organised
- Supporting the kitchen team during busy services
- Following food hygiene, health & safety and cleaning procedures
- Generally being the person the kitchen can rely on to keep things moving
What we’re looking for
You don’t need years of kitchen experience. Attitude matters more than experience.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Hardworking and reliable
- Organised and takes pride in keeping things clean
- Happy working at pace when things get busy
- A good team player who is willing to muck in
- Keen to learn and develop their kitchen skills
- Positive, friendly and brings a good attitude to work
If you’ve worked in a kitchen before, brilliant. If you haven’t, but you’re switched-on, hardworking and want to learn, we’d still love to hear from you.
Progression & Development
We don’t want this to be a dead-end job.
We have a clear progression plan for people who want to develop their career in the kitchen. Start as a Kitchen Porter / Assistant, learn the basics, build your skills and, with the right attitude and commitment, progress into a Commis Chef role and beyond.
You’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced chefs, take on more responsibility and develop your skills across the kitchen. Where you want to go is up to you — we’ll help you get there.

If you’re reliable, hungry to learn and ready to get stuck in, we want to hear from you.
