Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Manager in Transport and Distribution to oversee our logistics operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing transportation activities, coordinating distribution processes, and ensuring the efficient movement of goods across our supply chain. This role requires strong leadership skills, a comprehensive understanding of logistics systems, and the ability to optimise operational performance whilst maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal applicant will possess extensive experience in warehouse management, process improvement, and transportation management systems.
Duties
- Oversee daily transportation and distribution activities, ensuring timely delivery of goods whilst maintaining cost efficiency.
- Manage and optimise supply chain processes, including shipping & receiving, warehousing, and inventory control.
- Supervise a team of logistics staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to foster a high-performing workforce.
- Utilise transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management systems (WMS), and ERP platforms such as AS400 to monitor operations and generate reports.
- Coordinate with third-party logistics providers (3PL) to streamline external distribution channels.
- Implement process improvements aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing service quality through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations related to warehouse operations and transportation activities, including forklift operation standards.
- Analyse profit & loss statements to identify opportunities for optimisation within the logistics function.
- Develop strategies for shipping & receiving optimisation while maintaining high standards of accuracy and timeliness.
- Drive initiatives for process standardisation and automation to improve overall operational effectiveness.
Requirements
- Proven experience in supervising logistics or transport teams within a warehouse or distribution environment.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles, including logistics planning, warehouse operations, and shipping & receiving procedures.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems such as AS400, and process optimisation tools like continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience working with 3PL providers and managing complex distribution networks.
- Proficiency in using forklift trucks safely within warehouse settings; relevant certification is desirable.
- Demonstrable ability to analyse profit & loss data for strategic decision-making purposes.
- Excellent organisational skills with the capacity to oversee multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong leadership qualities with supervisory experience in fast-paced environments.
- Knowledge of safety standards related to warehouse operations and transportation activities.
