Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated afternoon Nursery Cook to join our team between hours of 1pm-5pm Monday-Friday.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for children in our nursery setting. This role requires a passion for food preparation, an understanding of food safety standards, and the ability to work efficiently. The Nursery Cook will follow meal plans that meet dietary requirements and promote healthy eating habits.
Duties
- Prepare and cook meals suitable for children, ensuring nutritional value
- Follow established recipes and meal plans, adapting as necessary to accommodate dietary restrictions or preferences
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, adhering strictly to food safety regulations
- Monitor stock levels of ingredients and supplies, placing orders when necessary to ensure continuous availability
- Serve meals in a timely manner, ensuring proper child portion sizes
- Support with general kitchen duties such as washing up, cleaning surfaces, and sanitising equipment
Qualifications
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably within a childcare or nursery environment
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Ability to organise tasks efficiently
- Experience of looking after and cooking for children desirable
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with nursery staff
- Basic understanding of dietary requirements for children, including allergies and special diets
- Food hygiene certification or willingness to obtain relevant qualifications before commencing employment
