We're looking for a motivated and organised Service Manager to lead our busy workshop in Hemel Hempstead. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business where you'll play a key role in maximising equipment availability, developing your team, and maintaining exceptional operational standards.
The Role
Reporting to the Depot Manager, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the workshop, ensuring our varied plant fleet is maintained to the highest standards while leading a skilled team of workshop fitters.
Responsibilities: What you'll do
- Lead and manage the workshop team, promoting a positive, high-performing culture.
- Oversee major and minor equipment repairs to maximise fleet availability.
- Carry out service red pen checks on hire equipment.
- Ensure the workshop and yard remain compliant with all Health & Safety and company standards.
- Manage workshop health & safety, including regular toolbox talks.
- Keep statutory training records up to date.
- Process workshop staff timesheets accurately and on time.
- Monitor workshop performance and communicate team objectives and targets.
- Analyse weekly purchase order reports to identify cost-saving opportunities and control depot spending.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding and development of workshop fitters.
- Drive continuous improvements in productivity, engagement and employee retention.

Qualifications & Experience:
- NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance (or equivalent).
- Previous experience managing a workshop or service department.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Experience within the plant hire, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, HGV or commercial vehicle sectors is highly desirable.
