HP StorageWorks D2D Backup Systems with HP StoreOnce deduplication provide disk-based data protection for data centres and remote offices. The D2D R&D team in Bristol has responsibility both for delivering products and for providing technology, such as deduplication, to other parts of HP. This is a very high growth area for HP.
The successful candidate will join a team responsible for the R&D programme management and system engineering of these products.
The job will include the following responsibilities:
- Investigating current and future backup and data storage technologies in order to be able to drive future product and market direction.
- Specifying future disk based backup appliance products or technology streams.
- Developing test strategies for products in development.
- Preparing QA/test environments, running tests, collating/analysing results and drawing engineering conclusions
- Providing escalation support for complex customer and internal issues relating to disk based backup products and supporting the Data Unavailable / Data Lost (DU/DL) process.
- Providing additional system engineering bandwidth to support technical developments on the proposed D2D roadmap.
- Working with divisions within HP and third party companies to obtain technologies and develop new products
- Producing whitepapers and other collateral for pre-sales and marketing teams on new products.
This role is available to candidates with 2+ years’ experience.
New or recent graduates with significant work experience and high technical knowledge will also be considered for the role.
The following qualifications are required (or equivalent experience):
- Masters or Bachelors degree in either an Electronic Engineering or Computer Science discipline (or closely related)
A good understanding/knowledge of the following:
- Computer architecture and operating systems (Windows server and Linux)
- SCSI, RAID, FC/SAN, file systems CIFS/NFS
- Computer networking skills (CCNA of great benefit)
- Software and product development life cycles (esp. Agile)
- Engineering processes for researching new technologies and products, gathering product/customer requirements and defining new product specifications and plans
- Product QA and test
- The technology behind storage replication and deduplication.
- Computer data backup processes and backup application software.
- Problem solving
- Project and time management
- Team working and communication
- Motivation and self-driven working.
- Experience with data storage products such as tape drives and networked storage devices NAS/SAN
- Experience working with or presenting to customers
