About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Trade Counter Assistant to join our Morecambe team. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.
As the first point of contact for our customers, you will be responsible for providing expert product advice, processing orders efficiently, and supporting the day-to-day operations of both the trade counter and warehouse. You will play a key role in ensuring an outstanding customer experience while contributing to the continued success of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional quotations to customers via telephone, email, and in person.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by handling enquiries efficiently and accurately.
- Welcome and assist customers at the trade counter, identifying their requirements and recommending suitable products.
- Offer technical product advice and sales support to customers.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Process customer orders accurately, ensuring products are available and delivered on time.
- Provide up-to-date information on stock availability, pricing, and lead times.
- Accurately process system transactions, including goods received, dispatches, stock transfers, and inventory management.
- Check, record, and process delivery documentation.
- Maintain accurate stock control and support regular stock checks.
- Deliver goods to customers within the local area when required.
- Ensure company vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and maintained to a high standard.
- Carry out general warehouse duties while maintaining a safe, clean, and organised working environment.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve team and business objectives.
About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate a positive attitude, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
You will ideally possess:
- Previous experience in a trade counter, engineering or builders' merchant, retail, customer service environment.
- Experience within engineering or similar i.e, plumbing, heating, electrical, motor trade, or DIY sectors etc is advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive and customer-focused approach.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- A willingness to learn and develop product knowledge.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Good IT and administrative skills.
- A full, clean UK driving licence.
- Knowledge of the local businesses would be beneficial but is not essential.
