Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing authentic sushi and other Japanese dishes, ensuring high standards of food quality, presentation, and safety. Responsibilities
- Prepare and assemble sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes according to established recipes and presentation standards
- Ensure all food preparation complies with food safety and hygiene regulations
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the sushi station and kitchen area
- Monitor stock levels of ingredients and notify management when supplies need replenishing
- Assist in menu development by suggesting new sushi creations and seasonal specials
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely service and customer satisfaction
- Adhere to health and safety protocols at all times during food preparation and service
- Train junior kitchen staff on sushi preparation techniques and safety procedures
Qualifications
- Proven experience in food preparation, particularly in sushi or Japanese cuisine
- Strong skills in cooking, meal preparation, and food presentation
- Previous kitchen experience within a restaurant setting is highly desirable
- Knowledge of food safety standards and proper hygiene practices
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Serving experience is a plus but not essential; willingness to learn is important
