Company: Stotto Build
Location: Based from Birstall, Leicestershire
Employment type: Full-time, permanent
Salary: £45,000 per year plus company pension
The Role
Stotto Build is looking for an experienced and reliable 1st and 2nd fix joiner to work across domestic building, extension and renovation projects.
The role is based from Birstall, Leicestershire, with travel to project sites as required.
You must be confident working independently, managing your daily workload and completing work to a high standard. You must also be comfortable working alongside other trades as part of a wider site team.
A Straightforward Role with a Proper Work–Life Balance
This is a practical, hands-on joinery role without the pressure of managing projects outside working hours. You will be given clear information about the work required, the materials and the programme.
We want you to arrive, complete quality work and communicate any issues during the working day. Once you have finished for the day, you can switch off. There is no expectation to answer evening calls, deal with customers outside working hours or spend your own time ordering materials and organising other trades.
You will be responsible for the quality of your own work, but you will not be expected to carry the wider stresses of running the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct traditional cut roofs from drawings and site measurements.
- Install prefabricated roof trusses safely and accurately.
- Install Posi-Joists and associated floor structures in accordance with manufacturers’ drawings and specifications.
- Construct dormers, including structural timber framing, cheeks, roof structures and openings.
- Carry out first-fix joinery, including stud walls, floor joists, roof structures, door linings and structural timberwork.
- Carry out second-fix joinery, including internal doors, architraves, skirting boards, ironmongery and finishing work.
- Install kitchens, including cabinets, worktops, panels, cornices, plinths and associated finishing work.
- Read and work accurately from architectural, structural and manufacturers’ drawings.
- Measure, mark out and calculate material requirements accurately.
- Identify and resolve practical site issues.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area.
- Protect customers’ properties and minimise disruption when working in occupied homes.
- Coordinate with site managers, subcontractors and other trades.
- Complete work within agreed programmes and report delays or material requirements promptly.
- Follow company procedures and all relevant health and safety requirements.
Experience and Skills Required
- Proven experience in both 1st and 2nd fix joinery.
- Strong experience constructing traditional cut roofs.
- Experience installing prefabricated roof trusses.
- Experience installing Posi-Joists and engineered floor systems.
- Experience constructing timber-framed dormers and associated roof structures.
- Competent and experienced in kitchen installation.
- Confident fitting doors, frames, linings, architraves and skirting boards.
- Experienced in timber studwork and general structural carpentry.
- Able to work independently without constant supervision.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail and pride in the finished result.
- Able to read drawings and work accurately from dimensions.
- Good practical problem-solving and communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual and professional when dealing with customers.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Relevant trade qualifications preferred.
- A CSCS card is not essential.
- Having your own tools would be an advantage, but it is not essential. Stotto Build will support the right candidate by providing the necessary tools and equipment required to carry out the role properly and safely.
What We Expect
We are looking for someone who takes responsibility for their work, thinks ahead and takes pride in doing the job properly. You will be expected to communicate clearly, look after the site and complete your work without leaving unfinished details for other trades.
In return, we will provide the information, support, organisation and equipment needed for you to concentrate on your trade. You do your work properly during the day, then go home and switch off.
