General Manager – The Bird in Hand, Lovedean
Salary: £38,000 – £43,000 per year + performance bonus
The Bird in Hand is a busy, food-led destination pub at the heart of the Lovedean community. Known for great food, excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere, we’re looking for an experienced General Manager to lead the business into its next chapter.
This is an opportunity for an ambitious hospitality leader to take ownership of an established venue, build an exceptional team and drive the business forward through outstanding guest experiences, strong commercial performance and community engagement.
About the Role
As General Manager, you’ll have full responsibility for every aspect of the business. From leading and developing your team to driving sales, delivering exceptional food and service, managing costs and maintaining the highest operational standards, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future success of The Bird in Hand.

What We’re Looking For
- A proven General Manager with experience in a high-volume, food-led pub or restaurant.
- A natural leader who can recruit, develop and inspire a high-performing team.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing sales, labour, stock and profitability.
- A passion for delivering outstanding hospitality and creating exceptional guest experiences.
- Experience planning and delivering successful events that drive footfall and community engagement.
- A hands-on leader who enjoys being on the floor, supporting the team and engaging with guests.
- Strong organisational skills with a keen eye for standards, compliance and attention to detail.
- Experience managing Health & Safety, Food Safety, Licensing, HR and all aspects of venue compliance.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Leading the day-to-day operation of the business.
- Driving sales, profitability and overall commercial performance.
- Delivering exceptional food, drink and service standards.
- Recruiting, training and developing a motivated, engaged team.
- Managing labour, stock, budgets and cost control.
- Planning and delivering a calendar of successful events and promotions.
- Maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, maintenance and presentation.
- Ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Fire Safety and Licensing legislation.
- Building strong relationships within the local community to grow the business and strengthen its reputation.
