Job Summary
The Lost Gardens of Heligan is an extraordinary, historic Cornish estate which has become one of the country's most popular and best loved destinations. In addition to the gardens, Heligan has its own 100 acre Home Farm. We are Red Tractor assured for lamb and beef and have been accredited as a Rare Breed Survival Trust Farm Park since 2017.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Farm Manager to cover maternity leave, overseeing daily operations and leading our small dedicated farm team.
The Farm Manager will play a vital role in maintaining high standards of animal welfare and operational safety.
Whilst this role is a fixed term contract for one year, our ambitious plans for the future may create the opportunity for the role to become a permanent leadership role in the team longer term.
Responsibilities
- Carry out practical land management activities including fencing and tractor work
- Manage livestock care, ensuring animals are fed, healthy, and properly housed.
- Monitor soil health and pasture health.
- Supervise the farm team, assign tasks, and ensure adherence to health and safety regulations.
- Keep detailed records of farm activities, livestock health, movements, breeding and vaccination programmes.
- Work on breeding programmes for rare breed stock.
- This is a hands on role and includes daily health checks, feeding, mucking out and bedding up.
Skills and Knowledge Required
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan ahead and prioritise tasks.
- Physical capability for heavy lifting, animal handling and prolonged periods of outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Previous experience of working with cattle and farm animals and caring for them to the highest welfare standards.
- Capable and confident in tractor driving and tractor mounted equipment
- Practical land management experience
- Experience in fencing including electric fencing would be beneficial.
- Previous experience in a similar team management role.
Pay: £32,000.00 per year
