About the role:
Reporting directly to the Ground Handling Supervisor, the Casual Ground Handling Officer plays an integral role in the safe and effective operation of the Ground Handling Department.
You will work both independently and as part of a strong, open and resourceful team, delivering consistently high standards across ground handling activities while meeting operational requirements and complying with company policies, procedures and health and safety requirements.
This is a casual, zero-hours position with no guaranteed minimum hours. Work will be offered according to operational requirements and individual availability, with shifts planned in advance wherever practicable. Shifts will normally be 12 hours and will be daytime shifts only; night shifts do not form part of this role. The role may include periods of lone working. The position is based at Humberside but may require travel to support ground handling activities at other 2Excel Aviation sites.
The role’s key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Ensuring the safe towing, positioning and ground movement of company aircraft using approved equipment and procedures.
- Carrying out airside driving duties and, where trained and authorised, undertaking runway condition assessments and completing Global Reporting Format (GRF) reports for out-of-hours operations at Humberside and unlicensed operations at Doncaster.
- Refuelling company aircraft using 2Excel fuel bowsers in accordance with the Ramp Manual, Ground Operations Manual and applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Providing oversight of third-party refuelling of 2Excel aircraft, ensuring the correct fuel uplift is delivered and activities are conducted in accordance with applicable SOPs.
- Marshalling aircraft in accordance with the Ground Operations Manual and local airside procedures.
- Conducting and accurately recording daily fuel sampling and associated fuel-quality checks.
- Controlling, operating and correctly storing Ground Service Equipment (GSE), including the completion and recording of required pre-use and periodic checks.
- Carrying out area hazard and foreign object debris (FOD) checks, together with required pre-movement, post-arrival and ground handling checks.
- Assisting with the preparation of aircraft for charter flights in accordance with applicable SOPs.
- Assisting with the safe loading and unloading of company aircraft.
- Promptly reporting and recording hazards, faults or irregularities involving aircraft, GSE, facilities or processes.
- Applying and removing aircraft protective covers safely during inclement weather.
- Cleaning and detailing company aircraft using approved products, equipment and procedures.
- Maintaining the cleanliness, safety and general upkeep of aircraft hangars and associated working areas.
- Full training and familiarisation will be provided where required.
Successful applicants will have the following skills, knowledge and experience:
- Ability to work safely under own initiative with minimal supervision and within the limits of training and authorisation.
- Clear and effective verbal, written and radio communication skills.
- Ability to organise and priorities work to meet operational timelines.
- A proactive approach to safety, hazard identification and problem-solving.
- Ability to remain effective under pressure and adapt to changing or competing operational demands.
- Availability to undertake agreed daytime casual shifts in line with operational requirements.
- A valid UK Driving Licence and the Right to Work in the UK.
- Previous experience in ground handling, aviation, airside driving or aircraft handling would be advantageous.
