WS Specialist Logistics is looking to recruit an experienced Yard Supervisor / Driver Assessor to join our transport operation based in Dalton, Thirsk.
This role is ideal for an experienced Class 1 (C+E) HGV Driver who has a strong understanding of driver standards, vehicle safety, and transport compliance. A significant part of this position involves conducting practical driving assessments for both prospective and existing drivers, making the HGV Class 1 Licence and proven driving experience essential requirements.
Alongside driver assessments, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the yard, ensuring vehicle movements are completed safely and efficiently while maintaining high operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct practical driving assessments for new and existing HGV drivers in line with company procedures.
- Assess driver competence, vehicle control, road awareness and safe driving practices.
- Provide clear feedback following assessments and report findings to the Transport Management Team.
- Promote high standards of road safety, legal compliance and professional driving.
- Supervise the daily operation of the transport yard.
- Safely shunt HGVs and trailers around the depot.
- Manage vehicle movements to ensure efficient yard operations.
- Carry out vehicle and trailer checks.
- Wash and maintain HGV vehicles and trailers as required.
- Support trunking and general transport operations when required.
- Maintain a safe, organised and compliant working environment.
- Provide support and guidance to drivers and transport staff.
Essential Requirements
- Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) Licence – Essential.
- Minimum of two years' HGV Class 1 driving experience – Essential.
- Confidence and ability to carry out HGV driver assessments – Essential.
- Previous experience within transport, logistics or yard operations.
- Previous shunting experience.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Excellent knowledge of HGV road safety, driver regulations and best practice.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide constructive feedback.
- Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
- Professional, reliable and safety-focused approach.
Desirable
- Previous experience conducting formal driver assessments.
- FLT (Forklift Truck) Licence.
- Supervisory experience within a transport or logistics environment.
