Clarkwell & Co is a firm of Accountants and Tax Advisors based in London. We are looking for a UK-experienced Practice Manager to join our rapidly expanding and friendly team.
This is a senior, office-based role suitable for someone with proven UK accountancy practice experience in a similar role. The successful candidate should be confident in managing client work, overseeing deadlines, supervising and training staff, attending client meetings, and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
The role requires strong technical knowledge across accounts, tax compliance, client management, workflow management, and internal practice systems.

Responsibilities
The Practice Manager will be responsible for:
- Managing client workflow, internal deadlines, and practice task allocation.
- Supervising, supporting, and training junior accountants, bookkeepers, and administrative staff.
- Reviewing statutory accounts for limited companies.
- Reviewing Corporation Tax computations and CT600 returns.
- Reviewing Self Assessment tax returns for landlords, directors, sole traders, and high-net-worth individuals.
- Reviewing bookkeeping work, VAT returns, and management accounts where required.
- Attending client meetings and dealing with client queries in a professional and confident manner.
- Ensuring that client work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on time.
- Monitoring Companies House, HMRC, VAT, payroll, and Self Assessment deadlines.
- Assisting with practice management, workflow planning, client onboarding, and internal systems.
- Preparing and reviewing confirmation statements and Companies House filings.
- Assisting with company incorporations, director changes, shareholder changes, and company secretarial matters.
- Assisting with PAYE, VAT, and other HMRC registrations.
- Maintaining excellent client relationships and ensuring a high standard of client service.
- Supporting the directors and senior management team with the growth and development of the practice.
- Helping to improve internal processes, systems, templates, and staff efficiency.
- Ensuring that compliance standards, professional standards, and client care procedures are followed.
Requirements
The successful candidate should have:
- ACCA, ICAEW, or ATT qualification, or be suitably experienced with strong UK practice knowledge.
- At least 4 years of proven UK accountancy practice experience, ideally in a similar Practice Manager, Client Manager, Senior Accountant, or Accounts and Tax Manager role.
- Strong knowledge of UK statutory accounts, Corporation Tax, Self Assessment, VAT, bookkeeping, and Companies House compliance.
- Previous experience supervising or managing staff within an accountancy practice environment.
- The ability to manage deadlines, workflow, and client expectations.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to attend client meetings.
- Good analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
- The ability to use initiative and take ownership of tasks.
- A professional attitude and genuine care for the quality of service provided to clients.
- The ability to build long-term client relationships.
- A proactive approach to developing technical knowledge.
- A willingness to learn, improve systems, and support the growth of the firm.
- Experience with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent, Dext, or similar would be beneficial.
