The Role
We are looking for an experienced Labourer / Paint Prepper to join our manufacturing team in Sheffield on a temporary basis.
Although the job title includes Labourer, this is not a general labouring position. We need someone with previous experience preparing steel or metal components for painting within a manufacturing, engineering, fabrication or bodyshop environment.
You'll spend your day preparing large fabricated steel components ready for paint by sanding, grinding, sealing, cleaning and carrying out surface preparation work to a high standard. This is a physically active role within a busy production environment where quality and attention to detail are essential.
If you've previously worked as a Paint Prepper, Fabrication Prepper, Metal Prepper, Bodyshop Prepper or in a similar engineering role, we'd like to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing large steel fabrications ready for painting
- Sanding, grinding and smoothing metal surfaces
- Sealing joints and carrying out preparation work before painting
- Cleaning down and degreasing steel components
- Using air tools, grinders, sanders and other preparation equipment
- Masking components where required
- Removing imperfections and ensuring surfaces meet paint standards
- Following work instructions and production schedules
- Maintaining a clean and safe working area
- Supporting the wider paint department as required
- Following all health and safety procedures
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience preparing metal or steel surfaces for painting is essential
- Experience with sanding, grinding, sealing and cleaning surfaces before paint
- Confident using air tools, DA sanders, grinders and similar equipment
- Experience within manufacturing, engineering, fabrication or bodyshop environments
- A practical, hands-on approach and strong work ethic
- Good attention to detail and pride in producing quality work
- Reliable with good attendance
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Forklift licence advantageous but not essential

Pay: £13.00 per hour
