Location: East Hanningfield, Chelmsford, Essex, CM3 8BY
Pay: £17.00-£18.50/hr, DOE - Paid Weekly
Contract type: Full Time - Permanent
Part Time may be considered for the right candidate.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Join J Gard & Sons, a well-established, family-run business where your skills make a real impact. We're looking for an experienced wood machinist to join our hardworking team in a hands-on, full-time role. You'll be working with quality timber, using specialist woodworking machinery to create stocked and bespoke products to tight deadlines. This is a permanent position based at our rural Essex workshop - ideal for someone who takes pride in their craft and values a clean, efficient and safety-conscious environment.
HOURS & LOCATION
Full-time hours based at our East Hanningfield yard, although alternative working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.
Please note: Own transport is essential due to our rural location.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Operating and setting up fixed woodworking machinery (including the Weinig Planer Cube), following technical drawings and cutting lists with precision, maintaining high standards of accuracy, quality and output, keeping your workstation clean and organised while minimising waste, carrying out quality control checks and completing necessary paperwork, and helping with materials handling, preparation and packaging as needed.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Previous hands-on experience in timber machining and workshop environments, confidence using woodworking machines and tools (Weinig Planer Cube or similar), the ability to read and work from drawings and cutting lists, strong attention to detail and pride in quality craftsmanship, and a proactive, team-focused mindset with a commitment to health and safety.
