A specialist SEND provision on the outskirts of Bradford is seeking a compassionate and dedicated PMLD Support Assistant to join the team from September. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), helping them access learning, communication, sensory experiences, and personal development activities in a safe and nurturing environment.
The provision delivers highly personalised education programmes tailored to each pupil's complex learning, physical, medical, and communication needs. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils to achieve their individual goals and maximise their independence and quality of life.
This role is available on a full-time basis, with the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with PMLD in classroom and therapy settings.
- Assist with the delivery of personalised learning programmes and sensory-based activities.
- Support pupils with communication using a range of approaches, including Makaton, PECS, objects of reference, and assistive technology where appropriate.
- Assist with personal care requirements, including feeding, toileting, changing, and mobility support while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and families to ensure consistent support for pupils.
- Support pupils with medical needs in line with care plans and training provided by the school.
- Facilitate engagement in sensory learning, life skills activities, and therapeutic interventions.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, achievements, and wellbeing throughout the school day.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating environment that promotes participation and development.
- Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, and manual handling procedures at all times.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with complex SEND needs, PMLD, SLD, or physical disabilities is desirable.
- A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
- Understanding of sensory learning approaches and person-centred support.
- Confidence supporting pupils with personal care and mobility needs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Willingness to undertake training in areas such as moving and handling, medical needs, and communication strategies.
- A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and improving outcomes for children and young people with complex needs.
- Relevant qualifications in Teaching Assistance, Health and Social Care, Child Development, SEND, or equivalent experience are desirable.
Pay: £95.00-£110.00 per day
