Apple Tree Children’s Café is a friendly, welcoming play café for babies and children aged 0–5 and their parents and carers. We are looking for a warm, reliable and enthusiastic Team Member to join our team.
This is a varied, hands-on role and would suit someone who enjoys working around young children, is confident speaking to customers and is happy working as part of a busy team.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and take their orders with enthusiasm and accuracy
- Prepare and serve a variety of food and beverages, including coffee, tea, snacks, and light meals
- Follow food safety standards diligently to ensure all products are handled and stored properly
- Maintain cleanliness of workstations, dining areas, and equipment to uphold hygiene standards
- Manage cash register transactions accurately using basic math skills
- Assist with food preparation tasks to support efficient service during busy periods
- Ensure timely delivery of orders by managing time effectively and prioritizing tasks
Skills
- Knowledge of food safety procedures and best practices in handling food and beverages
- Previous barista experience or familiarity with coffee-making equipment is highly desirable
- Experience in serving customers in a fast-paced environment with excellent communication skills
- Ability to perform food preparation tasks with attention to detail and safety protocols
- Strong time management skills to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently
- Basic math skills for cash handling and order processing
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team in a lively cafe setting
The role
Your shifts may include:
- Welcoming families into the café and providing friendly customer service
- Checking customers into play sessions
- Preparing and serving drinks, snacks and simple café food
- Using the till and taking customer orders
- Keeping the café, play areas and tables clean, tidy and welcoming throughout the day
- Resetting the play space between sessions
- Helping with children’s parties, classes and special events
- Setting up and clearing away party food, decorations and activities
- Supporting messy play and other children’s activities when required
- General cleaning, including tables, floors, play equipment, kitchen areas and toilets
- Helping ensure the café is safe and well presented at all times
About you
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, approachable and confident with customers
- Comfortable working around babies and young children
- Reliable and punctual
- Hard-working and happy to get stuck in
- Able to work quickly during busy periods
- Proactive and able to notice what needs doing without always being asked
- A good team player
- Happy carrying out cleaning as an important part of the role
Previous experience in hospitality, cafés, childcare, soft play, children’s activities or customer service would be helpful, but the right attitude and reliability are most important.
Availability
Our cafés run play sessions during the week and on Saturday mornings, with private children’s parties taking place at weekends.
We are particularly interested in applicants who can offer some weekend availability, as well as weekday shifts.
