About the Role
We're looking for an experienced and technically capable IT Manager to take full ownership of Evolve's IT environment. This is a hands-on, broad-ranging role — not a traditional people-management position. You'll be the primary internal IT contact for the business, responsible for everything from day-to-day user support and system administration through to infrastructure projects and cyber security.
If you're the kind of person who enjoys owning a technical environment end-to-end, can switch comfortably between strategic planning and practical problem-solving, and takes pride in keeping systems secure, reliable and well-documented, this role is built for you.
What You'll Be Doing
- Day-to-day IT ownership — serving as the main internal IT contact, supporting users and keeping Evolve's systems running smoothly
- SaaS administration — managing Google Workspace, Slack and other company platforms
- Device management — administering Windows, macOS and Linux endpoints, using Addigy and NinjaOne for MDM/RMM
- Networking — managing the UniFi environment, including gateway, switches, Wi-Fi, VLANs and CCTV infrastructure
- Virtualisation and servers — managing Proxmox hosts, virtual machines and Windows/Linux servers
- Cloud infrastructure — supporting and managing AWS services and infrastructure
- Backup and recovery — owning backup processes, recovery procedures and disaster-recovery planning
- Identity and access management — managing user onboarding, role changes and offboarding, including accounts, permissions, MFA, SSO and privileged access controls
- Hardware and software — handling purchasing, deployment, inventory and licence management
- Cyber security — taking responsibility for day-to-day security operations, including patching, vulnerability management, endpoint and email security, and incident response
- Compliance — supporting and maintaining Cyber Essentials/Cyber Essentials Plus certification and wider security and compliance requirements
- Supplier management — working with external IT, security and software suppliers
- Documentation — maintaining technical documentation, policies and procedures
- Projects — planning and delivering IT infrastructure and security improvements
- Defence and aerospace support — supporting the IT and security requirements associated with Evolve's work in defence and aerospace
What We're Looking For
We care far more about technical breadth, good judgement and the ability to learn than an exact product-for-product match with our current stack. If you have solid foundations across most of the areas below and a track record of owning systems independently, we'd love to hear from you.
Core experience we're looking for:
- Google Workspace administration
- Windows and macOS administration
- Linux administration (ideally Ubuntu/Debian)
- MDM/RMM and endpoint management
- Networking — VLANs, switching, routing, Wi-Fi, DNS, DHCP, VPNs and firewalls
- Virtualisation
- Cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
- Identity management, MFA and SSO
- Backup and disaster recovery
- Endpoint and email security
- Patch and vulnerability management
- SaaS administration and licence management
- IT supplier management
- Strong general troubleshooting skills
Useful but not essential — experience with any of the following is a bonus:
UniFi · Addigy · NinjaOne · Proxmox · AWS · GitLab · Google Vault · CrowdStrike · SolidWorks/PDM · 8x8
Experience with Cyber Essentials/Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001, or a background in defence, aerospace, engineering or another security-conscious environment would also be an advantage.
About You
Beyond the technical skills, the right person for this role will be:
- Self-sufficient — comfortable working independently as the main internal IT contact, without a wider IT team to lean on
- Well-organised — able to manage and prioritise a varied workload that spans long-term projects and immediate day-to-day requests
- Security-minded — with a genuine appreciation for why security matters and a proactive approach to managing risk
- Pragmatic and adaptable — happy to roll up their sleeves for basic user support one moment and lead an infrastructure project the next
- A clear communicator — able to explain technical matters to non-technical colleagues and work effectively with external suppliers
Experience and Qualifications
We're looking for around 3–5+ years of broad systems and infrastructure experience, ideally including time spent owning an IT environment or acting as a senior technical contact.
A degree is not required. Relevant certifications are welcome, but hands-on experience and technical breadth matter most.
Security Requirements
Due to the nature of Evolve's work, the successful candidate will be required to meet our security vetting requirements, including BPSS clearance and any additional vetting relevant to specific projects.
