Job Summary
We are seeking a financial administrator to support the day-to-day running of the firm's client and office accounts. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in legal finance. You will receive hands-on training and close supervision from the Head of Finance, gaining practical experience across cashiering, reconciliations, and accounts administration in a regulated legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Post client account receipts and payments accurately and promptly, ensuring all transactions comply with SRA Accounts Rules.
· Process outgoing client account payments including telegraphic transfers, CHAPS, and BACs, following the firm's authorisation procedures.
· Assist with client-to-office transfers, ensuring correct authorisation is obtained prior to posting.
· Monitor client account balances and flag any residual balances or unallocated funds to the Head of Finance.
· Assist with bank reconciliations for both client and office accounts on a regular basis.
· Support the posting of purchase invoices and expense claims to the correct cost centres in Xero.
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date cashiering records across Lawlink and Xero.
· Assist with any audit or compliance queries relating to client and office account transactions.
· Respond to internal queries from fee earners and consultants regarding account balances and payment status.
· File and maintain financial documents and transaction records in an organised and auditable manner.
Support the wider finance team with ad hoc tasks as the accounts function develops.
Essential
· A genuine interest in legal finance or accountancy as a career.
· Strong attention to detail and a high standard of numerical accuracy.
· Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
· A proactive, willing attitude and ability to take direction well.
· Competent with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
· Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Discretion and integrity when handling sensitive client and financial information.
Desirable
· Previous experience in a legal cashiering, accounts, or finance administration role (even at junior or entry level).
· Familiarity with Xero or any cloud-based accounting software.
· Basic understanding of SRA Accounts Rules or willingness to learn.
· AAT Level 2 or 3 (studying towards or already qualified) not essential but advantageous.
Pay: £25,450.00-£28,000.00 per year
