Job Summary
The Director of Outdoor Education & CCF School Staff Instructor (SSI) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for developing and delivering outdoor educational programmes and activities. This position involves overseeing the organisation of outdoor learning experiences, coaching staff and students, and ensuring the safety and engagement of all participants. The role requires a dynamic individual with a passion for outdoor education, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to inspire both staff and students through innovative teaching methods. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to fostering a positive learning environment that promotes physical activity, teamwork, and personal development.
Job Purpose:
· To co-ordinate all CCF activities at Christ College including weekly training, camps, house drill competition and other expeditions.
· To manage CCF assets, properties and equipment, specifically proper supervision of the firing range
· To support the Marketing department in championing outdoor education to prospective pupils
· To support the International Summer school (currently 2 weeks)
Key Performance Areas:
Outdoor Education
- Design and manage a whole-school outdoors programme so that all pupils are able to develop personally through challenge in an outdoor environment
- Administrative and organisational lead for the DofE, climbing, canoeing, mountain biking. Showing initiative and innovation in the area of Outdoor Pursuits and developing the school’s profile as a provider of quality Outdoor activities;
- Support St Nicholas House in the delivery of outdoor activities.
CCF
· The security and management of all CCF weapons, vehicles and stores, including both School and CCF property;
· Preparation for mandatory inspections;
· Management of the CCF facilities including the armoury, range, stores and teaching rooms;
· Supporting the Contingent Commander, planning, organising, managing and military skills and adventurous training, including exercises, competitions and camps;
· Delivering military skills (including shooting range work) and adventurous training instruction;
· Assisting teacher-officers in the delivery of instruction;
· General support to teacher-officers including mentoring on military matters;
· Supervising the cadets, with particular responsibility for the mentoring of the NCOs;
· Liaison with higher military authorities.
Health & Safety compliance:
- To have an appreciation and understanding of health and safety issues
- To advise the subject leader or Head of Faculty as appropriate immediately of any potential health and safety hazards
- To attend the school’s Health and Safety Committee meetings
