JOB TITLE: Accounts Assistant
SALARY: £27,000–£31,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualification, plus AAT study support
LOCATION: Romsey
JOB TYPE: Full-time, Permanent
---
A growing SME based in Romsey is looking for an Accounts Assistant to join its friendly, supportive finance team.
You'll report directly to the Finance Manager and play a key role in keeping the day-to-day finance function running smoothly. It's a high-volume, transaction-heavy role, so we're looking for someone accurate, organised, and comfortable managing a busy workload.
This is a great next step for someone with a few years of transactional finance experience who's ready to build on their skills — and their AAT qualification — within a growing business.
We currently use Sage and are planning a move to Microsoft Business Central in 2027. Experience with either system would be a real advantage, and if you've been through a similar system migration before, we'd love to hear about it.
What you'll be doing:
- Raising sales invoices
- Processing and allocating customer receipts
- Matching purchase invoices against purchase orders
- Reconciling supplier and customer accounts
- Handling supplier and customer queries
- Supporting month-end activities and reconciliations
- Providing general support to the Finance Manager and wider team
What we're looking for:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in an Accounts Assistant or similar transactional finance role
- AAT Level 3 — either studying towards it or already qualified (we offer study support)
- High attention to detail and accuracy, even when the workload is heavy
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise
- Clear, confident communication — you'll be liaising with suppliers, customers, and colleagues
- A proactive, positive attitude and willingness to keep learning
- Comfortable working independently and using your own initiative
- Experience with Sage or Microsoft Business Central is beneficial but not essential — full training and support will be provided ahead of our 2027 system migration
What you'll get:
- Salary of £27,000–£31,000 depending on experience and AAT progress
- Study support towards AAT Level 3 and beyond
- A friendly, supportive finance team where you're genuinely part of the day-to-day decisions
- Room to grow as the business grows
Pay: £27,000.00-£31,000.00 per year
