The role - APPRENTICESHIP LEVEL 3 ENIGNEERING FITTER
Four days a week with us in the workshop, one day at the college academy working toward a Level 3 Engineering Fitter qualification over four years.
You will be involved in:
- Machine assembly and fitting new builds and refurbishment projects
- Stripping down and rebuilding precision machinery
- Reading engineering drawings and schematics
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Diagnostics and fault-finding
- Testing and quality control
- Hand tools, power tools and precision measuring instruments
- Health and safety on site
Travel — please read before applying
During the apprenticeship: You will be based at our Peterborough workshop throughout term time. During college holidays in years 3 and 4, there may be opportunities to join our engineers on UK and international site visits a genuine early taste of the career ahead.
After the apprenticeship: The role involves regular service work at customer sites UK and international, including aviation sites. Some trips are up to three weeks away from base. All travel is pre-planned, paid door to door (flights, hotels, subsistence) and a company van is provided. We are looking for someone who is open to this long term. If regular travel does not suit you, this role may not be right for you.
Pay
- Starting: £19,500 per year (£10/hour) — above the legal apprentice minimum
- Increases every year based on your progress, college reports and exam results
- By year 4: approximately £31,200 per year
- Note: if you are aged 21 or over, the National Living Wage of £12.71/hour applies from year 2 onwards — we will always meet this
What we are looking for
We recruit for aptitude and attitude — technical skills are trained on the job.
- GCSE Maths and English Language at grade 4 or above (essential)
- A genuine interest in engineering and how things work
- Methodical, careful and accurate
- Safety-conscious at all times
- Reliable with a long-term mindset
- Comfortable with the idea of travel later in your career
- A full driving licence by the time you complete the apprenticeship
Where this leads
On qualifying: Mechanical Service Engineer / Shop Floor Fitter — £38,432 base salary, OTE £55,000+
Further progression: Fully field-based Service Engineer - Increase in Wages are reflected in this.
