Rock of Ages Nursery is entering a period of significant improvement following a recent Ofsted inspection. We are seeking an experienced and inspirational Nursery Deputy Manager who can lead the setting confidently through this journey. Our nursery serves a diverse community, and we aspire to provide high‑quality care and education for children aged 2–5 years.
We are looking to recruit a highly skilled Manager with strong leadership experience, excellent safeguarding knowledge, and a commitment to inclusive practice. You must hold a full and relevant Early Years Qualification to a minimum of Level 3 and have experience working with vulnerable children, families and those with SEND.
- to act as the SENCO, leading SEND provision across the nursery and ensuring effective identification, support and monitoring of children with SEND
- to lead and role model high‑quality practice within the setting and step up in the manager’s absence
- to monitor and support the staff team in providing high‑quality teaching and learning opportunities with effective completion of observation, assessment and planning processes
- to ensure the safeguarding and wellbeing of all children aged 2–5 years at all times
- to be active in providing stimulating and well‑planned experiences within the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum
- to ensure all children receive high‑quality care, are kept safe and experience stimulating play opportunities which meet their individual needs and interests
- to act as a key person for an allocated group of children, ensuring care and planning of experiences meet their individual needs, interests and next steps
- to build strong relationships with parents, ensuring they feel valued and supported in developing learning at home
- to keep abreast of all local and national changes that affect early years and SEND practice
Key Responsibilities
- to role model and monitor high‑quality practices that ensure the smooth day‑to‑day organisation and operation of the setting
- to lead staff in planning for the differing needs of children and enable their individual potential to be realised
- using observations and information from parents to plan across all areas of learning for the differing needs of children in your key group
- to keep accurate assessment records of your key children’s levels of development in line with the setting’s procedures
- to lead SEND provision as SENCO, including:
- working closely with external professionals
- maintaining accurate SEND records, provision maps and support plans
- supporting staff in implementing targeted strategies
- monitoring progress of children causing concern
- to be vigilant in maintaining health and safety practices within the setting and report any concerns to the setting manager
- to build and maintain effective communication and positive relationships with staff, parents, carers, families and relevant professionals, whilst respecting appropriate confidentiality
- to be alert to issues of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring that the welfare and safety of children attending the setting is promoted and to follow safeguarding procedures as detailed in the setting’s policy and as directed by the local safeguarding team
- to receive regular supervision meetings and annual appraisals with the setting manager, actively agreeing setting and personal targets
- to contribute to the supervision and appraisal of staff and updates of management systems by regularly liaising with the manager
- to be active in identifying your own CPD needs and be committed to attending both in‑house and external training, cascading information to the wider team
- to work within the company’s policies and procedures
- to follow the principles of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), promoting a setting that is socially inclusive, environmentally responsible and economically conscientious
- to work in accordance with the company’s Equality and Diversity policy
