We are looking for an experienced, motivated and commercially minded Estimator to join our pre-construction team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-profile projects while developing your technical and commercial expertise within an established construction business.
The Role
As an Estimator, you will prepare accurate, competitive and commercially sound estimates and tender submissions. Working with senior colleagues and wider project teams, you will support tenders from the initial review of information through to final submission.
Your responsibilities will include quantity take-offs, site visits, developing cost plans, submitting and tracking RFIs and tender queries, obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations, building up rates and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
The role would suit a methodical and self-motivated construction professional who can manage competing priorities, communicate confidently with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to winning profitable work.
Key Responsibilities
· Review drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documentation to establish the full scope of work.
· Complete quantity take-offs and prepare drawing mark-ups, bills of quantities and pricing schedules.
· Attend site visits to assess access, logistics, constraints and other factors affecting the price.
· Prepare detailed estimates covering labour, materials, plant, subcontractors and associated project costs.
· Obtain, review and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
· Build up competitive rates using current market information and historical cost data.
· Identify gaps, discrepancies and ambiguities in tender information, raising queries where required.
· Assess commercial and operational risks, opportunities, exclusions and qualifications.
· Prepare tender clarifications, assumptions and supporting commercial information.
· Complete pricing documents, bid schedules and tender return forms.
· Work with commercial, operational and design colleagues to gather the information required for each submission.
· Ensure tenders are accurate, compliant and submitted within the required deadlines.
· Maintain organised estimating records, cost databases and supplier information.
· Review tender outcomes and apply lessons learned to future submissions.
· Build professional working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
· Contribute to the continued improvement of estimating tools, templates and internal procedures.
What We Offer
· Competitive salary of £50,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
· 40-hour working week (Monday to Friday), typically 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, with flexibility to meet project demands.
· 21 days’ annual leave (pro rata), plus 8 bank holidays.
