Lunch Club Cook
The main role of the Lunch Club Cook is to manage the successful delivery of the weekly Friday Lunch Club meal in the Swaffham Community Centre.
Job Title: Iceni Partnership Lunch Club Cook.
Hours: 5 hours every Friday from morning till early afternoon
Contract: Permanent, part time
Salary: £13.50 per hour. Free lunch also provided.
Location: Swaffham Community Centre.
Reporting to: Iceni Partnership Manager.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
· Menu Planning: plan weekly Lunch Club menu (main course and dessert) on rolling monthly cycle to provide a quality nutritious meal on a cost-effective basis.
· Inventory and Stocking: create weekly shopping list of ingredients required and manage inventory, rotate stock and report shortages.
· Food Preparation: prepare and cook dishes including complex tasks like sauteing and ensure proper plating and garnishing. Identifying and accommodating any specific dietary requirements.
· Supervise Staff and Volunteers: Identify (kitchen and front of house) team required to prepare, cook, serve and clear away the Friday Lunch Club meal. Act as a working leader to manage the team on a Friday to deliver a successful outcome; high quality meal and outstanding customer service.
· Quality Control: monitor food quality, consistency and presentation; ensure dishes meet specifications.
· Training: provide on the job training and mentoring for staff and volunteers working in the kitchen.
· Food Safety and Hygiene: Ensure that the kitchen is maintained to the highest standard and in line with all rules and regulations relating to food safety and hygiene.
· Personal Development: continue to develop own cooking skills and qualifications and ensure existing qualifications are kept up to date.
· Compliance: follow proper cleaning, maintenance and reporting procedures in adherence with all relevant Iceni Partnership policies and procedures.
· Other Duties: perform other related duties as assigned or requested by the Iceni Partnership Manager.
Essential Skills and Qualities
· Level 3 Food Safety and Hygiene qualification or willingness to complete
· Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a commercial kitchen.
· Knowledge of various cooking and baking techniques.
· Experience of ensuring compliance with health codes while working in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to effectively delegate tasks.
· Team player.
· Strong leadership and communication.
· Passion for high quality nutritious food, high standards and attention to detail.
· Excellent organisational and time management skills.
· GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
Desirable Skills and Qualities
· Experience working in an environment with vulnerable and older people.
· Experience working in a mixed team of staff and volunteers.
· Experience working in the charitable sector.
· Vocational Diploma (NVQ/VRQ) Level 2 or 3 in Professional Cookery.
