Maine Road FC is looking for a qualified, enthusiastic physiotherapist to join our backroom team on a voluntary basis. Competing at Semi Professional level in the North West Counties Football League, we take player welfare seriously, and this role is central to keeping our squad fit, available and safe. You'll be the first point of contact for injuries on matchdays and at training, working closely with the manager and coaching staff to support the players across the season.
This is a rewarding opportunity to apply your skills in a competitive football environment, build pitchside experience, and be a valued part of a close-knit club.
Key responsibilities
- Provide pitchside first aid and immediate injury assessment on matchdays, making clear decisions on whether a player can safely continue.
- Attend regular training sessions to support injury prevention, manage minor knocks, and monitor players returning from injury.
- Assess, treat and manage musculoskeletal injuries, and guide players through appropriate recovery and return-to-play.
- Deliver taping, strapping and pre-match preparation as needed.
- Advise players and coaching staff on warm-ups, conditioning and injury-prevention practices.
- Maintain accurate, confidential treatment and injury records.
- Ensure the medical kit and pitchside equipment are stocked and match-ready, flagging any needs to the club.
- Refer players on to their GP or specialist services where further care is required.
- Work alongside the manager and coaches to make informed decisions on player availability.
What we're looking for
- A recognised physiotherapy qualification (degree or diploma) and registration with the relevant professional body.
- Membership of a professional body such as the CSP is desirable.
- A valid pitchside trauma / immediate care in sport qualification (e.g. FA ITMMiF or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards one.
- Current first aid / CPR certification.
- An enhanced DBS check (the club can support you in arranging this).
- Appropriate professional indemnity insurance.
- Sound knowledge of sports injury assessment and management, ideally within football or a similar contact sport.
- Good communication skills and the ability to stay calm and decisive under pressure.
- Reliability and a genuine commitment to player welfare.
What we offer
- A friendly, supportive club environment and a real chance to make a difference.
- Valuable pitchside and matchday experience desirable.
- Reasonable expenses can be discussed
- Support towards relevant qualifications and CPD where possible.
- Being part of the Maine Road FC family, with all the matchday atmosphere that comes with it.
