Purpose of the Role
To support teaching and learning across Blackpool Skills Academy in both vocational and academic settings. The postholder will bring practical experience in catering and hospitality to support the Catering department, whilst also providing Teaching Assistant support across other vocational pathways including Construction, Hair, Beauty and Barbering, together with academic subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. The role involves supporting learners with SEND, SEMH needs and EHCPs to achieve positive educational, vocational and personal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
· Support teaching and learning across vocational and academic curriculum areas.
· Provide practical support within Catering & Hospitality including food preparation, cooking, food hygiene and kitchen safety.
· Support learning in Construction, Hair, Beauty, Barbering and other vocational areas as required.
· Provide classroom support in English, Mathematics, Science and other curriculum subjects.
· Prepare classrooms, workshops, kitchens and learning resources.
· Support learners with SEND, SEMH needs and EHCP outcomes.
· Promote positive behaviour, attendance and engagement.
· Support literacy, numeracy, employability and independent living skills across the curriculum.
· Supervise learners during practical activities, educational visits and enrichment.
· Maintain health and safety standards and undertake other duties appropriate to the role.
Essential Criteria
· Experience working in catering, hospitality, food preparation or a commercial kitchen.
· Good practical cooking skills and understanding of food hygiene.
· Ability to support learning across both vocational and academic subjects.
· Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
· Ability to build positive relationships with young people.
· Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Flexibility of Deployment
Blackpool Skills Academy delivers a broad vocational and academic curriculum. Whilst this role has a particular focus on supporting Catering & Hospitality, the postholder will be expected to work flexibly across the Academy. This may include supporting practical lessons in Construction, Hair, Beauty and Barbering, alongside classroom-based learning in English, Mathematics, Science and other curriculum areas. Deployment will be determined by the needs of the Academy and its learners.
