The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Support Staff Member to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and leaders to support pupils both in and out of the classroom. This role involves building positive relationships, providing emotional and behavioural support, and helping pupils access learning at a pace and level appropriate to their needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEMH needs in lessons, small groups and 1:1 sessions
- Promote emotional regulation, positive behaviour and readiness to learn
- Assist with differentiated learning activities and personalised interventions
- Build safe, trusting relationships with pupils who may present with anxiety, dysregulation or low confidence
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff to maintain consistent routines and expectations
- Contribute to safeguarding, wellbeing and pastoral support
- Support with break/lunch duties, enrichment activities and wider school life
Essential Requirements
- Minimum Level 2 qualification in an education‑related field
- Experience working in a school environment
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to obtain business car insurance for transporting pupils or travelling between sites
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may have additional needs
- Calm, consistent and resilient approach
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a close‑knit team
Desirable (not essential)
- Experience working with SEND or SEMH pupils
- Understanding of trauma‑informed practice
- Experience supporting pupils with behaviour, emotional regulation or academic refusal
