New Century is the sort of place where breakthrough acts get their start and established names make their return. We’re a mid-century modernist gem, bang in the heart of Manchester, and we want to work with people who will help us make New Century’s next chapter even greater.
We’re independent, run by daughter & dad and a mega team of managers. We’re a fast-paced, high-volume, serious venue with a lot of history. And our regulars expect our level of quality, every time.
We aren’t looking for robots; we’re after people who thrive in a proper energetic environment. If you have a belting attitude and really care about delivering a class night out for others, we want you on our team.
What you'll be up to
- You’ll help run the venue. Working closely with the Head of Programming & Events and Operations Manager, you’ll be involved in the day-to-day operation of the site and help make sure every event runs smoothly.
- You’ll take charge when needed. When senior management aren’t on site, you’ll take responsibility for the venue, the team and the event, making confident decisions and keeping everything under control.
- You’ll get the venue ready. You’ll open and close the building, make sure all safety checks are completed and get the team and venue ready for doors.
- You’ll lead the team. You’ll run the shift, be a point of contact for all team members and contractors, and ensure all are working in tandem.
- You’ll deal with problems head-on. Things happen at live events. You’ll need to stay calm, use your judgement and resolve issues quickly and properly, including dealing with medical emergencies when required.
- You’ll keep standards high. From customer service and presentation to team behaviour and professionalism, you’ll lead by example and make sure the New Century standard is always delivered.
- You’ll keep everyone working together. You’ll work closely with security, medics, cleaners, contractors, police and other departments to make sure everyone is on the same page.
- You’ll make sure the rules are followed. You’ll help ensure company policies and procedures are followed across your team, including areas such as absence, sickness, equality, probation, investigations, disciplinaries and workplace accidents.
- You’ll stay on top of the admin. Event reports, accident reports, staff administration, shift management, emails and event-specific risk assessments all need to be accurate and up to date.
- You’ll keep an eye on the money. You’ll monitor cash coming in and out of the venue, spot anything that doesn’t look right and make sure irregularities are reported and investigated.
- You’ll help your team hit their goals. You’ll support the Head of Programming & Events with setting individual objectives and targets, then help your team stay on track and achieve them.
- You’ll get comfortable with our systems. From tills and HR platforms to time and attendance and cloud-based storage, you’ll be expected to learn the tools we use and use them properly.
- You’ll support wherever you’re needed. No two events are the same, so you’ll work with the Head of Programming & Events and Head of Food & Beverage on whatever the business needs to keep things moving.
This covers the main bits, but things move fast here and no two days are the same. We might need you to chip in with other tasks from time to time to keep the place running smoothly. As long as it’s reasonable and helps the team, we’re all in it together to make sure every day delivers the New Century experience.
Who You Are
We don't need a CV full of buzzwords. We’re more interested in who you are:
- You’re a team player: We’re a proper team. We look out for each other and get stuck in where it’s needed.
- You’re reliable: You show up on time, you take pride in your work, and you handle your business with integrity.
- You’re flexible: This isn’t a 9-to-5. We need people who can work evenings and weekends … the life of a music venue.
- You’ve got passion: You’re bang into music, you love good food and drink, and you thrive on being around people.
- You’ve got at least a year’s experience (preferably 2 years): We’re looking for someone with at least 1 year of management experience in an event environment. You’ll need to be comfortable taking responsibility and leading a team.
The Perks
We believe in looking after our lot. We’re a team that thrives when everyone pulls their weight, and we make sure the effort you put in is recognised and rewarded. Here’s what’s on the table:

- Pay as you earn: Use Stream to track your earnings and grab your pay as you earn it. No need to wait for payday if you need a bit of flexibility.
- Enhanced family leave: Proper support for when life gets busy. We’ll help you balance things at home so you can focus on the new arrival.

The Bottom Line
We don’t need to shout about how great we are; we let the venue and the atmosphere do that for itself. We’re after people who want to be part of something original in the heart of the city. If you’re keen to get involved, we’d love to have you on board.
