About the Role
Emperia College is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Computer Science Tutor to teach GCSE and A-Level Computer Science students. We have opportunities for both online and in-person tuition.
The successful candidate will deliver engaging lessons, prepare students for examinations, and provide guidance to A-Level students completing their Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) while ensuring all work complies with JCQ and awarding body requirements. The tutor will also support the delivery of practical programming activities for GCSE students and assist the centre in meeting any practical programming requirements where applicable.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach GCSE and A-Level Computer Science through one-to-one and small group sessions, both online and in person.
- Deliver lessons covering programming, algorithms, computational thinking and Computer Science theory.
- Support A-Level students through the planning, design, development, testing and evaluation stages of the NEA.
- Ensure guidance provided for the NEA complies with JCQ and awarding body regulations, ensuring all work remains the student's own.
- Deliver practical programming sessions for GCSE students and support the centre in maintaining evidence and practical programming records where required by the awarding organisation.
- Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations through revision, programming practice and past paper sessions.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science or a related subject (or equivalent experience).
- Experience teaching or tutoring GCSE and/or A-Level Computer Science.
- Strong programming skills, preferably in Python (knowledge of Java or C# is an advantage).
- Good understanding of GCSE Computer Science specifications and A-Level Computer Science NEA requirements.
- Ability to teach confidently both online and in a classroom environment.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Right to work in the UK.
