Job Overview
Proudly lead a proactive, capable and accountable depot that consistently achieves its operational and financial objectives through effective leadership, planning, communication and people management whilst maintaining complete oversight of the depot.
By building strong managers, maintaining high standards and providing the people, vehicles and resources the depot needs to succeed, we will reduce avoidable operating costs and operate a safe, efficient and profitable depot with solid foundations for growth.
Key Objectives
- Lead the overall performance of the depot by maintaining complete oversight of operational performance, service levels, people, attendance, accidents, customer issues and operational risks. Ensure no significant operational issue, accident, service failure or people matter develops without appropriate management involvement.
- Build, support and develop an Operations Management team capable of consistently achieving their own KPIs, communicating effectively with one another, maintaining high standards and creating a proactive and positive depot culture where employees understand what is expected of them and problems are identified and dealt with before they become bigger issues.
- Support Shift Managers with employee management, maintaining a visible presence throughout the depot whilst developing a complete understanding of employee performance, attendance, conduct and wellbeing. Recognise and address good performance, address poor performance and ensure management issues are dealt with promptly and consistently.
- Forecast network volumes accurately and proactively plan labour, fleet and resource requirements to meet changing operational demands safely, efficiently and profitably.
- Work alongside the Head of People to recruit high-quality employees and ensure every new starter receives the best possible introduction to the business.
- Continually improve the operational performance and profitability of the depot by reducing waste, strengthening supplier relationships and ensuring the vehicles, equipment and services the depot relies upon remain available, well-maintained and represent good value for the business.
- Maintain a safe, compliant and well-organised depot by promoting high standards of health and safety, ensuring risks are identified and managed appropriately and leading by example in creating a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility.
- Take ownership of all vehicle accidents and significant operational incidents, ensuring they are investigated thoroughly, appropriate action is taken and, wherever possible, insurance claims are avoided through effective management and recovery.
- Strategically manage significant customer complaints, service failures and operational escalations as they occur and when colleagues need support, ensuring they are resolved professionally, root causes are identified and corrective action is implemented to prevent recurrence.
