Job Title: SEN Tutor/Mentor
Active Outreach Services is seeking an experienced SEN Tutor / Engagement Tutor to provide 1:1 home-based support to a young learner in the Tonbridge area.
This is a 10-hour-per-week provision, expected to run Monday to Friday for approximately 2 hours per day, with a September start.
This role would particularly suit somebody who understands that successful SEN tuition does not always look like traditional classroom teaching.
The learner requires a highly practical, engagement-led approach. Sessions should incorporate play, practical activities and everyday experiences while naturally embedding basic English, Maths and life skills.
The successful candidate should be confident supporting a learner with Autistic needs.
You should have experience of:
- supporting children or young people with SEN;
- developing engagement through play and practical activities;
- supporting significant communication needs;
- using, or being willing to learn, approaches such as Makaton, communication boards, PECS
- adapting learning rather than relying on formal worksheets or classroom-style delivery;
- working professionally within a family home;
- following established support and safety strategies;
- using positive reinforcement, sensory breaks and learner-led engagement.
The learner responds well to activities including puzzles, creative activities, games, physical activity and practical life-skills work. A calm, patient and flexible approach will be essential.
Hours and availability
10 hours per week, Monday–Friday.
Sessions are expected to be approximately 2 hours each day 1 - 3pm.

Before allocation, the selected tutor will complete an Initial Meet with the parent/carer to understand the learner’s communication methods, routines, interests, engagement preferences, home-session arrangements and support needs.
