The role
H.W. Coates Ltd is looking for a reliable and confident Warehouse Operative to join our team in Middlewich.
This is a varied, hands-on warehouse role involving order picking, stock movements and general warehouse duties. A significant part of the role involves operating a VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) forklift truck to pick and move stock at height.
The position also involves regular manual handling, including picking and moving boxes weighing up to 25kg, so applicants should be comfortable with the physical nature of the role.
We're looking for someone who works safely, takes pride in doing the job properly and can maintain accuracy while working in a busy warehouse environment.
Key responsibilities
Your duties will include:
- Picking customer orders accurately and efficiently
- Regular operation of a VNA forklift truck
- Picking and moving stock at height using VNA equipment
- Loading, unloading and moving stock within the warehouse
- Manual handling of boxes and products weighing up to 25kg
- Checking product codes, quantities and batch information
- Using handheld warehouse equipment to record stock movements
- Carrying out stock movements and assisting with stock checks
- Identifying and reporting damaged, incorrect or missing stock
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping within the warehouse
- Following site health & safety procedures at all times
- Supporting other warehouse activities when required
What we're looking for
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- Previous warehouse experience
- VNA forklift experience and ideally a current VNA FLT licence
- Experience picking orders within a warehouse environment
- A good level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Confidence working at height using VNA equipment
- The ability to carry out regular manual handling, including boxes weighing up to 25kg
- A strong awareness of workplace health & safety
- Reliability and good timekeeping
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team
- A positive attitude and willingness to help with different warehouse duties when required
A current VNA FLT licence would be a strong advantage, although we would still consider good warehouse candidates with relevant experience and the right attitude.
Experience with our particular warehouse systems is not required, as full training will be provided.

The person we're looking for
We're looking for someone who can be relied upon to work safely and accurately without needing constant supervision.
You'll need to be comfortable working in a busy warehouse, operating VNA equipment regularly and carrying out physical work throughout the day.
Accuracy is important. Our customers rely on us to pick and despatch the correct products, quantities and batches, so we're looking for someone who checks their work and speaks up when something doesn't look right.
