East Durham College is seeking an experienced Plumbing & Heating professional to join our growing Technical Skills Academy as a Lecturer.

You don’t need to be a qualified teacher to apply. If you have strong industry experience and a passion for developing others, we will support you in gaining a teaching qualification while you work.
You’ll deliver high-quality teaching across Levels 1–3, helping learners develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours they need to progress into employment or further study.

Deliver engaging practical and theory sessions aligned with industry and awarding body standards

Plan and prepare high-quality learning materials, including digital resources

Assess learner work, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records

Support curriculum development and contribute to quality improvement activities

Provide academic and pastoral support, including careers and progression guidance

Build relationships with employers and support work experience opportunities

Take part in team meetings, standardisation activities, and college events

Keep your industry knowledge up to date and engage in continuous professional development

Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and a positive learning environment

A Level 3 qualification in Plumbing & Heating (or a related discipline)

GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)

Industry experience is essential — teaching experience is not

A teaching qualification (Cert Ed/PGCE/DTLLS) is desirable, but not required — full support will be provided to achieve this

A genuine interest in supporting and developing the next generation of tradespeople

Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively

A professional, reliable, and team-focused approach

An understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice (training can be provided)

A full UK driving licence (or access to transport), where applicable

Assessor or Internal Verifier awards are advantageous but not essential
