We are looking for caring, reliable and enthusiastic people to join The Old Vicarage in Moulsford as Trainee Health Care Assistants.
You don’t need to arrive knowing everything, we’re looking for the right attitude, compassion and willingness to learn. We’ll help you develop the skills and confidence you need.
What is the Roots Programme?
Roots is our supported development programme designed to help people who are new to care build the foundations for a successful career with us.
Alongside working as part of our experienced care team, you’ll receive structured learning, practical experience, mentoring and ongoing support.
You’ll learn about areas including:
- Person-centred care
- Supporting residents with their daily routines
- Communication and building positive relationships
- Dementia awareness
- Safeguarding
- Moving and assisting
- Infection prevention and control
- Health and safety
- Nutrition and hydration
- Supporting independence, choice and dignity
- Understanding care plans and record keeping
- Working effectively as part of a care team
Most importantly, you’ll learn what great care looks and feels like for the people who live at The Old Vicarage.
What you'll be doing
As you develop through the Roots Programme, you’ll work alongside experienced colleagues to:
- Support residents with their individual care needs
- Help residents with personal care in a respectful and dignified way
- Support mobility and encourage independence wherever possible
- Spend meaningful time talking and engaging with residents
- Support residents during meals and activities
- Get to know residents, their families, preferences and routines
- Follow individual care plans
- Complete appropriate care records
- Help maintain a safe, comfortable and homely environment
- Work closely with colleagues across the home
Who are we looking for?
Experience isn't essential.
We're much more interested in who you are as a person.
You could be:
- Leaving school or college and looking for your first career
- Returning to work after a career break
- Looking to completely change career
- Working in hospitality, retail or customer service and wanting something more meaningful
- Interested in care but unsure how to get started
You’ll need to be:
- Kind, patient and compassionate
- Comfortable talking to and spending time with older people
- Reliable and committed
- Willing to learn and take feedback
- Able to work as part of a team
- Respectful of people's dignity, choices and individuality
- Interested in developing a long-term career in care
