About Play Lane
Play Lane is a brand new role play centre for children, providing a fun, imaginative and safe environment for families. Alongside the play space, we operate an on-site café offering snacks, light bites, and hot and cold drinks.
The Role
We are looking for a reliable and friendly Play Cafe Host to support both the café and the play centre. This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working independently in a busy, family-focused environment.
Due to single-person shifts and responsibility for opening and closing the centre, this role is open to applicants aged 18 or over.
Availability Required
- Saturdays and Sundays are essential
- Availability to provide partial cover during school holidays
- Working 2 out of 3 weekends per month (Saturdays and Sundays, every third weekend off)
- Rotation: Fri/Sat/Sun, Fri/Sat/Sun, Tue/Thu/Fri.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Café & Food Preparation
- Preparing and serving coffee and other hot and cold drinks
- Making sandwiches, toasties, and light snacks
- Operating the café terminal and processing card payments (no cash handling)
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic food preparation area
- Keeping track of stock levels
Play & Customer Areas
- Tidying and resetting toys between play sessions
- Cleaning tables and chairs between customers
- Vacuuming, mopping floors and dusting as required
- Cleaning and maintaining toilets to a high standard
Opening & Closing
- Opening and closing the café and centre independently
- Completing opening and closing checks
- Securing the premises and ensuring the site is left clean, safe, and secure
General
- Maintaining a safe, welcoming, and family-friendly environment
- Delivering excellent customer service to children, parents, and carers
- Working independently and taking responsibility for the site during shifts
About You
- Aged 18 or over
- Previous barista experience
- Strong customer service skills are a must
- Food Hygiene Level 2 qualification required
- Native-level English
- Friendly, approachable, and compassionate when dealing with children (including SEN)
- Reliable and comfortable working alone
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment
- Able to manage time effectively and multitask
- Happy to carry out cleaning and light physical tasks
