ACCOTAX is a growing UK accountancy and tax practice with a distributed delivery team and an ambitious, fast-moving culture. We’re looking for a sharp, tech-savvy Senior Accountant to act as the quality backstop for the firm reviewing the team’s work with a critical, analytical eye and owning the relationships within a portfolio of clients. This is a role for someone clever and exacting, who spots what others miss and raises the standard of everything that leaves the practice.
The role
You’ll be the senior set of eyes on work produced by the wider team reviewing accounts, tax and bookkeeping for technical accuracy, consistency and sense before it reaches the client. Alongside the review function, you’ll manage your own portfolio of clients, leading their communication and being the person they trust. You’ll also help us work smarter, using technology to make review and delivery faster and tighter.
Key responsibilities
- Analytical review — reviewing accounts, tax returns, VAT and bookkeeping prepared by the team; interrogating the numbers, spotting errors, anomalies and inconsistencies, and ensuring the work makes sense before sign-off.
- Technical accuracy & compliance — checking work against UK GAAP/FRS standards, HMRC and Companies House requirements, and the firm’s own quality standards.
- Raising the team’s standard — giving clear, constructive feedback to preparers, correcting recurring issues at the root, and helping the team improve over time.
- Client portfolio management — owning a portfolio of clients end-to-end: their communication, queries, deadlines and overall experience.
- Client communication — dealing with clients clearly, professionally and proactively, and being a confident point of contact they rely on.
- Working tech-smart — using cloud accounting and analytical tools (Xero, QuickBooks and similar) efficiently, and identifying ways technology can make review and delivery sharper and faster.
- Delivery & deadlines — ensuring reviewed work is completed accurately and on time.
About you
- Minimum 3 years’ UK practice experience — this is essential; we need someone who already knows how a busy practice runs.
- Portfolio experience — you have managed a portfolio of clients and owned those relationships.
- Sharp and analytical — clever, quick, and exacting, with the instinct to question numbers and find what doesn’t add up.
- Strong technical knowledge — confident across UK accounts, tax and compliance.
- Genuinely tech-savvy — comfortable with cloud software and keen to use technology to work smarter.
- Similar environment — experience working in a practice with a distributed or offshore delivery team would be a strong advantage.
- Qualification — ACCA / ACA / CIMA qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience.
- Excellent communicator, reliable, and proud of the standard of work that carries your name.
What we offer
- A senior, high-trust role at the heart of the practice, with real ownership from day one.
- A fast-growing, ambitious firm where sharp people are valued and can progress.
- The chance to shape how we review, use technology and raise quality across the team.
- A supportive team and a culture that rewards initiative and high standards.
