Home Maker (General Assistant)
Stratton Court Care Home, Cirencester, Gloucestershire
Daytime hours, no nights | Fits around the school run | No personal care
If you’re the kind of person who walks into a room and lifts it, this might be the best part-time job in Cirencester.
We’re looking for warm, energetic Home Makers to join the team at Stratton Court — our beautiful care home on the edge of Cirencester. The hours fit neatly around the school run, the work is genuinely varied, and the residents are some of the most interesting people you’ll ever meet.
What you’ll actually be doing
This is a hands-on, hospitality-led role — think more along the lines of a great hotel or a friendly community café than a clinical setting. You’ll be the warm, welcoming presence around the home during the busiest part of the day.
A typical shift looks something like this:
- Helping with breakfast, mid-morning drinks and lunchtimes — laying tables, carrying plates, sitting with residents, having a chat over a cup of tea.
- Tidying bedrooms, freshening up communal areas, helping with the laundry, making sure the home looks and feels the way a premium care home should.
- Greeting visitors at reception when needed, answering the phone, helping families feel at home when they come to visit.
- Being a friendly face for residents — stopping for a chat, listening to a story, brightening someone’s morning.
This is NOT a personal care role. You won’t be doing washing, dressing or any clinical tasks. Our care team does that. Your job is to bring warmth and energy into the home, and to keep it running beautifully on the hospitality side.
The hours
- Daytime only, no nights — typically 08:30 or 09:00 start, finishing at 14:30 or 15:00.
- Flexible around school — we know the school run matters. We’ll build the shift around drop-off and pick-up.
- Full-time or part-time — tell us what works for you. From two days a week up to five.
- Weekends optional — weekdays only if that’s what you need.
What we’re offering
- A friendly, properly supportive team — the kind of place people stay.
- Full training and ongoing development — no previous care home experience needed.
- Genuine opportunities to grow into other roles if you want to (hospitality, activities, care, reception).
- Workplace pension and employee assistance programme.
- A beautiful Cotswold setting and a home you’ll be proud to work at.
Who we’re looking for
Honestly? The job description matters less than the person. We’re looking for:
- Warm, kind people who genuinely like older people.
- High energy — the kind of person who gets stuck in, notices what needs doing, and doesn’t wait to be asked.
- Reliable. If you say you’ll be there at 9, you’re there at 9.
- A good team player — happy to help wherever you’re needed, whether that’s the dining room, the laundry, or the front desk.
- Practical, friendly and quick to learn.
- Comfortable with a busy, varied day — if you like quiet repetitive work, this isn’t the role for you.
Care home experience is welcome but absolutely not required. We’ve had brilliant Home Makers come from cafés, hotels, schools, retail, hospitality, parenting, nursing assistant roles — and people just returning to work after a break. What matters is who you are.
