Role Summary
This is an exciting new role within our Planning for Progression (P4P) provision in Sunderland, designed to support young people who are currently Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET)—many of whom may have had negative or disrupted experiences of education.
The role focuses on re-engaging learners, rebuilding their confidence, and supporting them to develop the skills, behaviours, and resilience needed to move forward positively. Through a combination of personalised learning, PSHE, employability training, and real-world experiences such as work placements, you will help learners rediscover their potential and identify meaningful progression routes.
You will play a vital role in creating a safe, supportive, and motivating environment, where young people feel valued, understood, and empowered to succeed in their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities
· Design, deliver, and assess engaging learning programmes that develop learners’ employability, digital skills, preparing them for adult life.
· Embed PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) into delivery to support learners in developing confidence, resilience, communication, wellbeing awareness, and key life skills.
· Plan and facilitate sessions that explore topics such as emotional wellbeing, relationships, personal responsibility, workplace behaviours, and preparing for independent living.
· Support learners to achieve their individual goals in line with awarding body requirements.
· Motivate and inspire learners to achieve, progress, and reach their full potential.
Employer Engagement & Work Placements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local employers, businesses, and partner organisations to create opportunities for learners.
- Source, develop, and coordinate meaningful work placement opportunities aligned to learners’ goals and programme outcomes.
- Support learners in preparing for placements, including employability skills such as CV writing, interview preparation, and workplace expectations.
- Liaise with employers to ensure placements are well-structured, safe, and mutually beneficial.
- Monitor learner progress during placements, providing support and intervention where needed to maximise success.
- Act as a key link between learners and employers, ensuring positive experiences and long-term partnership development.
Learner Experience & Delivery
- Create a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that promotes high levels of participation, positive behaviour, and strong attendance.
- Provide ongoing advice and guidance throughout the learner journey—from recruitment through to progression.
- Promote professionalism and appropriate behaviour, particularly in interactions with employers and the public.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to address barriers such as underachievement, attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and additional support needs.
- Support learners to identify vocational areas of interest and access taster sessions
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies that remove barriers to learning and support progression into employment.
Quality & Organisation
- Maintain accurate and timely records, including progress reviews, placement tracking, and learner documentation.
- Support course development, continuous improvement, and quality assurance processes.
- Champion equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of your work.
- Contribute to the promotion and marketing of Springboard programmes and services, including employer engagement activity.
- Undertake additional duties as required, in line with the needs of the role.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- Teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards) and/or assessing qualification.
- Experience of teaching, assessing, and quality assuring.
- Experience in planning and delivering employability programmes.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage employers and partners effectively.
- Excellent communication skills across a range of audiences.
- Passion for supporting and engaging learners to achieve positive outcomes.
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage your own workload effectively.
- Good IT skills and confidence using digital systems.
- GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English at Level 2.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to travel to meet the needs of the role.
- Flexible, proactive, and committed approach.
Desirable but highly advantageous
- Experience of engaging with employers or coordinating work placements
