Job Summary
Higham Park is seeking an experienced Working Foreman from a Carpentry background to join our family-owned business on a long-term, full-time self-employed basis.
Projects comprise high-quality large HMO conversions, large extensions and 1-2 unit new-build schemes for an established property rental company in the same ownership. Schemes are based in the Maidstone and Tonbridge areas.
We are seeking someone able to lead a team of established subcontractors and skilled labour and the role requires strong knowledge of all stages of construction.
The role will involve being hands-on with tools approximately 30-50% of the time, supporting the other trades as needed and undertaking the enabling works and jobs that fall between trades. As such you will need to have your own tools and have strong knowledge of the whole residential construction process.
Alongside the directors, the role requires someone able to read and review architect drawings and contribute their construction knowledge during the planning process as well as ensure the work is delivered on time, to budget and quality on site.
We want a team player that takes pride in the quality of the work, thinks about projects as if they were investing their own money and acts on what’s best, not just what’s quickest or easiest. You will need to be able to communicate clearly and thoughtfully and be comfortable taking responsibility and ownership.
The current Working Foreman has been in post for some years, and this role has only become available because of their retirement. Age is irrelevant and we welcome interest from older candidates - experience and attitude is what matters.
Duties
- Strong knowledge of all stages of residential property construction
- Hand-on with tools 30-50% of the time in Carpentry-type work, supporting other trades
- Contribute to reviewing drawings and plans at design stage
- Plan a programme of works in conjunction with the directors
- Undertake measures and take-offs for materials and place orders with suppliers for elements of the build
- Able to set out for groundworks and check accuracy of below-ground works
- Ensure a clean, secure and organised environment
- Uphold safe working standards at all times
- Liaise with architects
- Organise Building Control inspections and ensure requirements are met
Pay: £1,250.00 per week
