Optical Assistant / Receptionist – Leiston
£25,500–£28,000 per year (dependent on experience/hours) | Full-time or Part-time | Full training provided
Marshall and Lilley is looking for a friendly, reliable Optical Assistant/Receptionist to join our team at our Leiston practice. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with the public and wants to build a career in eye care. Full training will be given — you don't need previous optical experience, though experience working with the public is preferred.
About the role You'll be the first point of contact for our patients, both in person and on the phone, helping the practice run smoothly from the front desk through to the dispensing area.
What you'll be doing
- Greeting patients and managing appointment bookings (phone, email, in person)
- Answering queries and directing patients appropriately
- Helping patients select frames and offering styling advice
- Assisting with basic frame adjustments and repairs
- Processing orders and liaising with our dispensing team
- Handling payments and maintaining accurate records
- Keeping the practice and frame displays looking their best
- General administrative support
What we're looking for
- Experience working with the public preferred (retail, hospitality, customer service, or similar)
- GCSE grade 4/C or above in Maths (or equivalent), desirable
- Friendly, professional, and well-presented
- Good attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Reliable, punctual, and a team player
- Comfortable using computers for bookings and records
