We are recruiting for an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager to support the leadership and day-to-day management of a children’s residential home in Derby.
Working alongside the Registered Manager, you will help ensure that children and young people receive safe, nurturing and genuinely child-centred care. You will take responsibility across safeguarding, staff management, regulatory compliance, quality assurance and improving outcomes for young people.
This opportunity would suit an experienced Deputy Manager, Senior Residential Support Worker or Team Leader who understands children’s residential care and is confident leading and supporting a staff team.
Key responsibilitiesLeadership and management
- Support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day running of the home
- Help create a positive, nurturing and child-centred environment
- Lead by example and maintain strong professional standards
- Keep the needs, wishes and feelings of young people central to the service
Safeguarding and care
- Promote high standards of safeguarding and child protection
- Manage and monitor concerns, incidents and significant events
- Ensure care plans, risk assessments and behaviour-support plans are followed and reviewed
- Monitor young people’s progress, wellbeing and outcomes
- Promote independence, education, health and emotional development
Staff management
- Support staff recruitment, induction, supervision and development
- Conduct supervisions, appraisals and performance reviews
- Monitor mandatory training and qualifications
- Promote teamwork, accountability and continued professional development
Compliance and quality
- Support compliance with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
- Assist with Ofsted inspections and Regulation 44 and Regulation 45 requirements
- Maintain oversight of audits, policies, procedures and quality assurance
- Identify areas for improvement and help implement changes
Additional responsibilities
- Monitor medication procedures, health and safety and fire safety
- Ensure the home remains safe, secure, welcoming and well maintained
- Work closely with social workers, local authorities, families, schools and healthcare professionals
- Represent the home professionally during meetings, reviews and inspections
- Ensure records are accurate, child-focused and completed on time
- Monitor staff recording and ensure concerns and incidents are reported correctly
About you
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience within children’s residential care
- Experience as a Deputy Manager, Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader or in a similar leadership role
- Strong safeguarding and child-protection knowledge
- An understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
- Experience supporting or managing residential childcare staff
- Knowledge of care planning, risk assessments and behaviour-support plans
- An understanding of Ofsted, Regulation 44 and Regulation 45 requirements
- Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
- The ability to remain calm and professional during challenging situations
- A commitment to improving the welfare, development and independence of young people
- A relevant Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Children and Young People or Residential Childcare, or a willingness to work towards the required qualification
A full UK driving licence may be desirable depending on the service.

Pay: £40,000.00-£43,500.00 per year
