AAFAQ BOOKSTORE is opening a new bookshop and café at 165 Edgware Road in central London.
Our café will operate within the bookshop, providing customers with quality hot and cold drinks in a welcoming and relaxed environment.
We are looking for a friendly, reliable and experienced Barista / Café Assistant to join our London team.
Main responsibilities
- Prepare and serve espresso-based coffees, teas, cold drinks and other café products to a consistent standard.
- Operate the commercial coffee machine, coffee grinder and other café equipment safely and correctly.
- Welcome customers, take orders and provide friendly and professional service.
- Operate the point-of-sale system and process cash and card payments accurately.
- Maintain high standards of drink quality, presentation and customer service.
- Keep the coffee counter, preparation areas, equipment and customer seating areas clean and organised.
- Follow food-hygiene, health-and-safety and allergen procedures.
- Monitor stock levels and replenish ingredients, cups, packaging and other café supplies.
- Receive and check café deliveries when required.
- Clean and maintain equipment, utensils and work areas throughout the day.
- Support café promotions and seasonal offers.
- Work closely with the bookshop team to provide a positive overall customer experience.
- Carry out other reasonable duties connected with the daily operation of the café.
Essential requirements
- Previous experience working as a barista or preparing espresso-based drinks.
- Confidence using a commercial espresso machine and coffee grinder.
- Good spoken English.
- Friendly, professional and confident customer-service skills.
- Good attention to cleanliness, presentation and accuracy.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a small team.
- Able to remain calm and organised during busy periods.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends.
- The right to work in the United Kingdom.
Desirable experience
- Experience working in a café, coffee shop, restaurant or hospitality environment.
- Experience operating a point-of-sale system and processing cash and card payments.
- Knowledge of milk steaming, espresso extraction and basic coffee-machine cleaning.
- Understanding of food allergens and hygiene requirements.
- Experience preparing cold drinks, blended drinks or simple food items.
- Arabic language skills would be an advantage due to our diverse customer base

This is a full-time, on-site role at our Edgware Road bookshop and café, with an immediate start preferred.
