Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for children in a nursery setting, ensuring all food safety standards are met. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about culinary arts and child nutrition to contribute positively to a caring environment. The Nursery Cook will work closely with staff to deliver high-quality meal services that support the health and wellbeing of our young learners.
Hours
Hours will be during the school day, ideally 9:30am-2:30pm but we can be slightly flexible to help with school pick ups/drop offs. We would ideally like someone all year round but would consider lower hours in the school holidays.
Duties
- Prepare and cook a variety of nutritious meals and snacks suitable for children in accordance with dietary guidelines and nursery policies.
- Ensure all food preparation complies with food safety and hygiene standards, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen at all times.
- Assist in planning weekly menus that cater to dietary restrictions, preferences, and nutritional requirements.
- Manage stock levels, order supplies as needed, and ensure proper storage of ingredients to minimise waste.
- Serve meals in a timely manner, ensuring presentation is appealing and appropriate for children’s age groups.
- Maintain accurate records of food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and allergy information.
- Collaborate with nursery staff to coordinate meal times and special dietary needs.
- Follow health and safety procedures diligently, including proper handling of food allergens and sanitation practices.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or culinary roles, preferably within a childcare or educational setting but not
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices for hygiene in a kitchen environment.
- Experience working in a restaurant or catering environment is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to prepare meals efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and presentation.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Friendly demeanour with excellent communication skills suitable for working with children and staff alike.
- Basic understanding of serving practices within a nursery or similar setting is advantageous.
Pay: £12.71-£14.00 per hour
